Kilimanjaro group via Shira Route - 7 Days

Overview of the Shira route

7 Days Shira route Kilimanjaro climb. The trail begins near Shira which approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the west and is nearly identical to the Lemosho Route. Shira’s route offers a higher starting point than Lemosho’s. Shira was the original route and Lemosho is an improved variation. It is less favourable than its successor due to Shira’s high altitude.

The route joins the Machame route near Lava Tower after Shira 2 Camp and proceeds to Lava Tower. It then heads down towards Barranco Valley via the Southern Circuit before summiting from Barafu and descending through the Mweka route. Hilbas Tours recommends 6 or 7 days on this route, but 7 days are preferable for better acclimatization.
