Mount Kilimanjaro Overview

Kilimanjaro climbing route. With 6- climbing routes, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest freestanding mountain on earth. It can be accessed by a wide range of hikers of different fitness levels and abilities. At an elevation of 5895m (19,341ft), it is located in northeastern Tanzania and is part of Mount Kilimanjaro National Park.

Kilimanjaro Mount is a dormant volcano comprised of three volcanic cones, Shira, Mawenzi and Kibo (on which the Uhuru summit stands). The park itself displays an astounding variety of environments. At lower altitudes, mountain forests house elephants, buffalo and primates. Climb higher and the forest is surrounded by moorland topography. Higher still and you will enter the alpine desert zone. Finally, the ascent takes you to a glacier of snow and ice, where you stand, on Africa’s roof. Because altitude acclimatization is a big challenge, adding an extra day to the climbing itinerary can improve success chances substantially. Hilbas Tours can prepare you for a memorable adventure!

For those who do not want to climb, you can view this beautiful mountain from Moshi. You can also hike to the mountain base. There are 6 routes to climb Mt Kilimanjaro: Machame route, Lemosho route, Shira route, Umbwe route, (Whiskey) Rongai route and Marangu (Coca-Cola) route.
