Mount Kilimanjaro Overview

Kilimanjaro climbing route. With 6- climbing routes, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest freestanding mountain on earth. It can be accessed by a wide range of hikers of different fitness levels and abilities. At an elevation of 5895m (19,341ft), it is located in northeastern Tanzania and is part of Mount Kilimanjaro National Park.

Kilimanjaro Mount is a dormant volcano comprised of three volcanic cones, Shira, Mawenzi and Kibo (on which the Uhuru summit stands). The park itself displays an astounding variety of environments. At lower altitudes, mountain forests house elephants, buffalo and primates. Climb higher and the forest is surrounded by moorland topography. Higher still and you will enter the alpine desert zone. Finally, the ascent takes you to a glacier of snow and ice, where you stand, on Africa’s roof.
