Kilimanjaro packing list: One of the most crucial prerequisites for a successful summit attempt is proper equipment. Ensure that you are well prepared by contacting the administration for a printable Checklist and marking it off. It will be an essential part of your climb preparation.

Please remember to limit the weight of your duffel bag and its contents, to be carried by porters on the climb to 15 kg (32 lbs.) or less. Extra luggage, including clean clothes to wear after your climb, can be left at the hotel. Make sure you have everything you need to summit the Roof of Africa. Essential Kilimanjaro Packing List

Travel documents

 Valid passport and Tanzanian visa

– Resident permit

– International health card with immunizations (Yellow fever).

– Airline tickets (onward or return)

– All insurance documents

Essential items

1-Day backpack – between 20 – 35 litres. Large enough to carry your water, camera, raincoat, lunch pack, snacks & warm clothing

1- Duffel bag, (waterproof recommended), large enough for all climbing gear, to be carried by the porters. An extra bag must be left at the hotel with extra gear.

1-Waterproof, breathable & windproof jacket (outerwear like Venter, Gore-Tex or Jeantex)

1-Insulate jacket, synthetic or down,

1-Soft jacket, fleece or soft-shell

1- Waterproof, breathable & windproof pants (outerwear).

1-2-Long Sleeve Shirt, light-weight, moisture-wicking fabric

2-3-Short Sleeve Shirt, light-weight, moisture-wicking fabric

1-2-Hiking pants (convertible to shorts)

3-4- Thermal underwear (under layers)

1- Small luggage lock – to lock zippers

Enough regular underwear

1- Polar fleece (middle layer).

2-Sport bra (for women)

1- Raincoat or Poncho

1- Balaclava or buff, for face coverage

1- Mittens or warm gloves

1 – Glove liner (if necessary)

Footwear

1-Water resistant semi-stiff hiking boots – mid-weight boots work perfectly

1 – Shoes for overnight camps – sneakers, running shoes, etc.

– Liner socks – to keep your feet dry and limit blister risk

 – Socks – several pairs for the climb

3- Socks, wool or synthetic

1- Gaiters

1- Sun hat or similar (with a brim)

1-Sleeping bag, warm, for all seasons

1-Sleeping bag liner for added warmth (optional).

1- Walking sticks (one pair)

2- Water bottles – (total capacity at least 3 or 4 litres) Camelback, useful on bumpy roads (optional)

1 -Headlamp, preferably a strong one with spare batteries,

1-Sunglasses, high quality dark lenses for the climb, with a secured strap

– Altitude sickness – Diamox (if not allergic to sulphur)
