TRIP SUMMARY

MARANGU ROUTE OVERVIEW

Marangu is a term derived from the native Chagga language and means “full of water”. Marangu Route also known as the “Coca-Cola” route, is the oldest, most well-established route on Mount Kilimanjaro, and is also the only route offering comfortable sleeping huts at every campsite with solar lights and comfortable beds. The huts are shared by all climbers and the bunks have sponge mattresses and pillows so require fewer supplies.

The Marangu Route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the southeast. It is, unfortunately, less scenic than other routes because the ascent and descent are on the same path. Compared to other routes, it offers relative luxury. 5 Days Marangu route can be done but we recommend taking an extra day for acclimatization at the Horombo hut. This increases your chances of success.

Hilbas Tours: We offer Marangu five or six-day private or group climbing tours. The five-day variation does not have an acclimatization day on day three at Horombo Hut.

Mountain Climbing Clothes

If you are packing for your climb it is important to really plan your clothing appropriately and we recommend choosing wool or synthetic options, like polyester or nylon, instead. Mountain Kilimanjaro Weather

The short answer is that Mount Kilimanjaro temperatures range from hot to bitter cold. Climbing Kilimanjaro is unique for many reasons, including weaving through several distinct climate zones from origin to summit.

It is said that the journey from the gate to the peak is like travelling from the equator to Antarctica in days! Mount Kilimanjaro has five major ecological zones, each approximately 3,280 feet (1,000 m) high. Each zone experiences a corresponding decrease in rainfall, temperature and flora/fauna as the altitude increases.
